MUSISCOPES

Relational architectures:

Musiscopes is born when I was listening to a metal lamella on a table edge with a stethoscope . To have my hands free, I putted a glass of Orval on the head of the stethoscope. Noticing that the sounds were less dry, colored by the glass which influenced the sounds captured by the skin of the stethoscope. The stethoscope was transformed without physically transforming it. The glass, the table, all parts of this environment influenced and communicated with each other. New geographies of instrument making appeared, languages between materials and open modular architectures.

Musiscopes 5

In this Musiscope there are 3 main stethoscope viewing angles to mix, two of which are adjustable for pressure and reverb. There is a carillon, 7 tuneable metal strings, balls under the floor on a metal plate and all parts of the instrument are playable, caress the different woods, already producing a concert. It can be connected to others or transformed via acoustic "plug-ins". Opening the potential of relational architectures. One can also have pipes to capture sound in the air, near a resonant body or sculpt these ears in all forms and materials. The OrdiNature* of acoustic instrument making ?

(*"Ordinateur" in French = Computer )

In the Musiscopes, we find characteristics of the worlds of electricity and electronics, but in acoustics: New universes with open applications: One can also use these inventions to create acoustic audio guide paths, Toys, versatile and specialized educational tools. Opening up a multitude of developments to existing instruments. The creation of complex musical instruments for professional musicians or no less complex but different, for each and every project. From stethoscope safaris - To installations of any size and complexity, with the (Heartscopes) project, in which acoustic, electric and digital universes dialogue.

Pickup & Versatile Mic:

This project also gave birth to a family of tools to capture and sculp sounds: A microphone becoming several modular pickups, playable, transformable with multi-effects - plugins and acoustic mixer. Before the capture by a microphone and becoming electrical and digital information. During my concerts, sound and media professionals are generally interested and sometimes fascinated by this system. In 2019-20, I used it to create sound banks and documentary film music for Christophe Delbecq's "Fluctuations du vide".

Based on the stethoscope, the artist Baudouin Oosterlynck has created poetic and dream listening instruments: Sculpture of ears and relational explorations with oneself and life.

Performances-Concerts & exhibitions Musiscopes at the Centre Wallonie Bruxelles in Paris. For the concert I had an aquatic Musiscopes and walked on a cousin filled with water to play the level and notes. The sounds are harmonic and evoke the song of whales.

It is perhaps the most magical and hypnotic instrument that was born through me. It is children who gave me the idea when we created a park of water installations for the . Video: Éric Van Osselaer at Kontact sonores I made the instrument on site and finished it the day before the concert without being able to practice or make adjustments. I’m glad that this video exists but the distortion shortcut is a more brutal facet, of the potentials and realities of a first poetic and therapeutic instrument :-)

6 Musiscopes racordables between them - Acoustic microphones with spring reverb and a whole panoply of bows, wands... An educational kit, of explorations and games, for children as well as adults and experienced musicians. For the inauguration in 2006, they were played by classical musicians, specialized in experimental music. 2 musicians playing small private-public concerts, for two people at a time. I then gave a concert with the conductor, on 2 amplified musiscopes. The first 4 were made with François Cys, research and intense work, a lot of happiness and too little sleep? : -)

Heart Spring - Twisted Time

       Musiscope Twisted-Time

The Musiscope "Twisted Time" Created for the exhibition "Le Son s'Explose" á Nantes, was a revisit of one of the first musiscopes exhibited at the City Sonics festival: giant spring, bell cutter, marble scales, lamellophones... There is a view to a marble composition inside the base, where a modified mechanical clock, produces an evolutionary composition basis. In relation to two broadcasts in matter, musical compositions and atmospheres, with different perspectives of listening and playing with this orchestra.

Musiscopes_mr Strauss              Peruwelz scopes

Thank you mr Strauss: A gentleman who played with one of the 4 musical guest tables displayed in a warehouse at Peruwelz in 2003 I believe. The other photo gives an idea of the environment, with the clown and the flea market in the background. He talked to me at length and explained exactly what the project is, which impressed and motivated me.

So many thanks, to all those who have supported and support the Evolplay projects.
