When we met, each of our projects research and achievements echoed one another. Within days, weeks, we had ideas and projects for a few hundred thousand years of creation, and we have achieved so many things together. The Cyclophones are a fruit of François Cys' « Mécaniques Sonores » project. This series of installations comes from a world where objects talk, a poetic view through a search for harmony between space and time, the spiritual and the physical, the palpable and the impalpable. Éric and François created together the first version of the installation: "Vélo d'appart". Then François developed his magical worlds of installations and ever more projects with extraordinary inventions. Discover and rediscover without limits, do not miss the Cyclophones, Electric Poems and other creations of François Cys.
First exhibitions at the festival City Sonics á Mons (2006) and at the festival Octopus - Pt FMR á Paris (2007).
Vélo d'appart 1 at Disco Kids in Brussels Atomium (2008). After the installation we camped in the Atomium, it was magical to see Brussels by night from the darkness of the closed restaurant in the top gigantic silver ball. And the infernal awakening at 5 am, discovering the acoustics and realities of a monument where there can be several thousand visitors per day :-)
Vélo d'appart is each time a unique creation in space and sometimes we spent several days composing architectures. François had created a musical sink where you could wash your hands with the music and located in a wood, this simple sink transformed it into a surreal and magical bathroom. In this setting one was at the top of a hill and a pipe went down to the edge of the channel of the Ourq. Where an off-center keyboard allowed to play water flutes and various instruments. Also reminding that someone has to cycle the main "motor" installation to provide air for it to work. The installation is a "pipe-organ" and provides sufficient pressure to trigger vibrating membrane instruments installed in space. The same process as the horns or pumps of football supporters, in a more instrumental version. I was trying to tune some of the instruments that were going to be suspended in the air and unreachable. François came to me, asking what I was doing. It was obvious but I answered him and smiling, in all complicity he told me this magic sentence: "Leave it as it is, kids will love it ;-)".
Premiere of Playtime at City Sonics in Mons, then at the Sonorama festival in Besançon where there was a retrospective of Evolplay works and the creation of a hundred new works for Heartscopes. The Evolplay team arrived with a 12 ton truck and two vans, for a month in residence and creation in the city.
François had made Vélorgue before our meeting and developed his work, he created a new keyboard for Vélo d'appart then Vél'Eau, Cyclo Aquaphonique, les Cycloscopes, il inventait les Cyclo Dynamo... The Cyclophones family becaming more extraordinary and magical installations at each step :-)
Installations that children naturally appropriate and often monopolize. Beyond impasses and ghettos "adults or children", children have everything to teach us, but it is not a one-way street, the appropriations of adults are very different and infinitely rich in different ways. Communities through Evolplay offer relational interfaces: The expansions and relational evolutions of children of all ages, are the richest and most unlimited.
